On Location: Desert Rose

A good photo shoot needs an inspiring location, and I spent last weekend doing just that. Searching high and low for a spot that would make the florals of "Desert Rose" pop and shine!

The perfect place was discovered and I wanted to give you an inside peek...

Stop and Smell the Roses

It is that time again, time for The Vintage Society to take on a new, fresh editorial for Spring 2008. The season is awash with florals and I couldn't help but focus on petals, stems, and bouquets. The femine florals will be contrasted by a dry, barren desert location.

I have scouted locations, compiled inspiration and began to pull from The Vintage Society collection. I am excited to bring you into this season's "Desert Rose".

Fall Dreams

Though it's 80 degrees in California, at The Vintage Society it is 40 degrees! We are over here creating the Fall photoshoot and pretending that we need many layers, wooly socks, and fur vests.

The models are being fitted and prepped and will soon be hitting the photoshoot location. I am excited to let you, society girl's, in on more than just the photos, we will be posting an exclusive behind the scenes video as well.

So if you are in a place where it feels more like a beautiful spring day rather than a crisp fall day, I hope that we can spread some Fall love your way!

Big, Bulky Lunch Boxes

Fall means all things wonderful - coats, scarves, tights, cups of warm coffee, football games, and BACK TO SCHOOL.

As I've watched kids loading the big yellow bus, it got me thinking about my old school days. Though learning facts and figures was important, I would have say it was the friendships that mattered the most.

You can't beat those days - the early years, swapping food over your big, bulky lunches boxes, high school moments spent cheering on your team at the homecoming football game, or late night donut runs in college when you should be cramming for the midterm exam.

So, with all these warm, fuzzy thoughts I was motivated to bring this to life in THE VINTAGE SOCIETY's Fall Photoshoot. Here are just a few photos that inspired the upcoming shoot.

Gearing up for Summer

A recap...

It was an incredible experience doing my first shoot for The Vintage Society. "Patriot Act" turned out better than I could have imagined! I really wanted to create a look that would be signature to the store and also inpiring to the society girls out there as you get ready for some summer fun! Those hot and sultry days are fast approaching, so time to gear up.

The first of the three looks is ideal for your excursion to Paris or a bike ride around Martha's Vineyard. I don't know how practical it would be, but you sure would be "Sartorialist-worthy".

The second look exudes casual glamour for that outdoor summer wedding your attending. I can just see it now, you are standing on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, "At Last" hangs in the air, the bride and groom twirl around the floor - and you are stealing the show! All eyes are on you - whoops.

The third is perfect for America's favorite pastime - the backyard BBQ. Throw a bathing suit on underneath, slip off the shoes and eat some grub. You'll be (like the wings on the grill) smokin' hot!

Patriot Act: Part One

Society girls, I am so excited to tell you! You are going to love it!

For the past few weeks, I have been developing a photo shoot for The Vintage Society. I wanted the shoot to involve actual clothes from our inventory and bring out the summer trends.

I chose a location down in one of the oldest cities in Orange County. I wanted the urban vibe but with character and artistic influences.

I chose a theme that was playful and full of color.

I chose my model.

This weekend I went to work. First pulling together all of the items, steaming, pressing and making them ready for their debut. I gathered up all kinds of essentials - bobby pins, clothes pins, brushes, combs, make up, and on and on.

My model showed up this morning and the flurry began. Fitting her into all the clothes, doing her make up and styling the hair.

We set out into the city to shoot. We caused a frenzy dowtown. Men were staring, pulling out their cameras to take pictures and asking to be in shots. It was an adventure.

All the chaos was worth it in the end. The shots were beautiful! I can't wait to show you... and I will, just be patient.
