Calvin Klein - Inside Story

The buzz inside the Calvin Klein tent hummed out onto the streets as we were led through the doors. Making it in with minutes to spare.. the lights went down.. the crowd calmed and the clicking of heels echoed around the room. It was a powerful and strong start and the show that followed was nothing less.

Each piece was structured and well cut. The models, a shadow for the clothes that hung on them. Make-up was minimal and hair pulled back into a severe pony tail.

The show ended the way it began with the heels echoing down the hall. It was perfection!

Show Stopping! Part 1

Attending the Calvin Klein show was an experience to take with me to the end of my days. There were two separate showings, and though I was only inside for one I felt as if I attended two.

Show One - the parade of the fashion elite! Nina Garcia (Elle) , Amy Astley (Teen Vogue, Editor), Lisa Love (Teen Vogue, West Coast Editor), and the list goes on... but the highlight - Anna Wintour brushing passed me with her signature style.

Show Two - the parade of Francisco Costa's designs for Calvin Klein. Once again his designs were precise and chic. I fell in love with the accordion-pleat gowns that stomped down the runway.

Society Girl Mission

Two Society Girl's on a mission: create individual and eye-popping looks for their first day at the tents. Considering the cold weather and the spring fashion around the corner, they both seemed drawn to bright colors, but with their own ideas.

ABIGAIL

Feeling fun and fresh in her mod yellow dress and grey tights, she tied the look together with the perfect plum booties and an all encompassing plaid jacket.

BETH

Inspired by Karen Walker's (Fall 07) Superhero line and Luella's (Spring 08) punk meets floral line, she put her own twist on things by adding the vintage Boy Scout hat.

A Quick Peek

At this moment my toes ache, the balls of my feet are yelling at me and I feel wonderfully fabulous! I am in New York City, enjoying the wonders of Fashion Week.

So far it has been a whirlwind. I feel as if I lived three different days within the last 24 hours. After an exhausting flight from coast to coast, my fashion cohort (Abigail) and I jumped on the subway and headed into the city. We made a quick stop off at our hotel to freshen up and stretch out our aching bodies.

Back uptown we surfaced at 42nd street and made our way to those glorious tents. There we found our fashion haven.

The day was spent seeing shows (show updates to come) and being embraced by this explosion of creativity and artistry.

It was a day to remember and we are ready for the next....

The BIG News!

Ok, so yes.. going to New York for Fashion Week was part of my news… but there is actually a lot more.

The last few months at The Vintage Society has been really exciting… and it is time to reveal all the juicy gossip!

About a year ago, The Vintage Society took shape in my mind; I had a dream to take all my creative energy and put it into something I loved – Fashion. I had the concept for a little shop that would sell vintage and re-designed clothes, but would be a hub for girls to come together and inspire each other with their own individuality.

A few months into the forming of The Vintage Society, I started this blog as a way to put my ideas out there and give readers a view into my journey. The blog has grown and I have discovered more about what I love within the fashion realm. I love styling, writing and being a part of this amazing community of Society Girls. My vision has grown beyond just the little shop it started with, and because of this I wasn’t sure which direction to take.

At this crossroads, I was informed of an amazing opportunity that was being offered to women with a vision (I’ll expand..in a moment). I applied – was accepted into the first round – interviewed in LA with two women – was accepted into the final round- interviewed in LA with a panel of women – and finally after two weeks of nail biting found out that I had been selected for a DREAM OPPORTUNITY!

So… what is this opportunity?

It starts with a new clothing line that is launching in Summer 2008. The global brand Quiksilver has developed an amazing women’s line that is all things wonderful. This Quiksilver Woman is one with an adventurous spirit who has moved away from the beach city into the big city and is pursuing her dream of more than the mundane life. She is an artist, an entrepreneur, globally aware and ready to take on the world.

With this girl in mind, Quiksilver is sponsoring six women with independent vision. Their goal is to give these women all the resources they need to make their dream come alive, and I am one of these women!

The hub of this activity is taking place in a site in Los Angeles (the Silverlake area). The site will be used as an office for all the girls as well as an event space to further our goals.

So, Society Girl’s out there.. I will be expanding all the ideals of The Vintage Society over this year. If you live in the area, I will be holding events and trunk shows with the Society inventory. I will also be using the resources of Quiksilver to dive deeper into styling and fashion writing and ultimately see where The Vintage Society lands.

There will be a lot more news on this subject and I will let you in on everything. Thanks for reading and making this opportunity available. You are the ones that have inspired me!

Weekend Recap - Warmth, Comfort and Style

My trip to NYC is just days away and with that in mind I have been busy prepping and preening. There are three basic elements I have been considering: Warmth (this Cali girl isn't used to 30 degree weather), Comfort (walk a mile in platforms.. ) and STYLE (most imperative).

Taking into consideration all three I have been in pursuit of the perfect boots. I have searched high and low - online, specialty shoe shops, favorite cheap shoe stores, my reliable go-to brands (Steve Madden, Aldo) ..... basically everywhere with no luck. I had a certain boot in mind - reminiscent of a combat boot with, dare I say it, "a 90's grunge vibe".

After days and weeks of searching I finally stopped into a local thrift store.. and there were my perfect pair of 90's "My So Called Life" boots.

So before I take them to see the big apple, I thought it would be a good idea to test the three essentials - Warmth, Comfort and Style. Which meant wearing them the entire weekend (seriously, I didn't take them off expect to sleep).

And yes they passed the test.. now on to New York...

It's Here!

It is here! Finally! Jovovich-Hawk for Target will be in our hands come March 2008.

I have to say the high-waisted jean skirt looks perfect for a spring day in the park and the 70's hippie vibe is right up my alley.

Once again, I will be hitting the local Target on day one of the launch.

Society Girl of the Week - Debbie Harry

Sleepovers, big hair, watching "Girl's Just want to Have Fun" over and over and siren-like fashion. All these wrapped up together remind me of one time in my life - the 80's! Leaving those years behind, I never thought I would be returning to them in regards to fashion - but you can't stop it - it is a mainstay now. 80's are back and they have been for a while. The neon colors, the acid wash, the jumpers - you can't deny it.

There is one woman in particular who embraced the 80's and set a standard for style. She is still doing it today and looking back through these vintage photographs, I am amazed how much of what she wears makes me "wanna give it a try".

After a red eye flight into the city, me and my fashion cohort will be freshening our faces and heading straight into the arms of FASHION MADNESS.

First up - REBECCA TAYLOR - one of my favorite designers from the Spring 2008 collections. She inspired my sherbert signature nails. I can't wait to see what she has the bring to Fall 2008.

To follow is one of the most classic and well known desingers of our time - CALVIN KLEIN - his simplicity is always breathtaking and I anticipate exeptional beauty for Fall 2008.
