I have a problem... I don't buy basics! Definition of basics, "something that is fundamental; an essential ingredient... for one's wardrobe".
I am too often drawn to the unique - colorful - printed coat, dress or skirt. I forget to buy the basic tank top, shirt or pants. This causes difficulties when going to put an outfit together. I look in the closet and see a bunch of hodgepodge with no foundation, and you need the foundation to build upon.
I decided to start the weekend with a mission to find some basics. Baby steps to basics... baby steps to basics... for my first time I did pretty good. Three out of four purchases were basic.. I think!
(The Basic - Army green shirt - American Apparel, Skirt and Vest - thrifted and tie-dyed by me, shoes - Payless)
(The Basic - another striped shirt, Pants and Socks - H&M, Shoes - BeBe, hat - estate sale)

i LOOVE the first && last looks. The stripes && the yellow socks under the peeptoe is soo cute!
Some good baby steps there! All the outfits are lovely.
I really love those Payless shoes in the second outfit! I've got to have them! Would you mind telling me which of Payless' brands it is? Thanks!
Stef,
Unfortunately.. I bought these payless shoes a year ago. I don't think they carry them anymore.. but you might try searching for them on ebay under the Fioni brand.
Wow, the last look is very inspiring, those pants look amzing on you...and the socks add a great pop of color. Very cute.
i have exactly the same problem...
though for me, basics are even more "basic" than striped shirts ;) well i plan to do a complete basic shopping day (with a list of things on it!) after my a-levels.
wonderful outfits!
I love your outfits!
I have the same problem, I need to invest more in basic clothes!
Love the first look, really cool. You just gave me inspiration for tomorrows outfit! Basics are boring, but so necessary, so I usually buy them on sale!

i particularly LOVE that last outfit, you have such a versatile style
Thanks everyone! I know my basics weren't super basic.. but they were a step in the right direction.
I completely agree with you about needing basic to build upon. I too, am a print lover and find myself just throwing prints on top of prints! Congrats on your basics success. Check my blog out at http://omowrites.blogspot.com Thanks!
A-MAZING. As always.
xx
that stripey gap shirt is amazing... is it there now????
Lauren,
The stripey gap shirt was thrifted.. so I don't think it would be in stores now.. but you never know, they may have something like it.
